Abstract

Abstract The efficient protocol for bio-synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Tecomella undulata leaves was developed. The present study revealed that bio-active compounds and secondary metabolites present in the aqueous extract function as stabilizing agent for AgNPs. UV-Visible spectro-analysis and FTIR confirm the presence of bioactive compounds and TEM, EDX and XRD studies confirm the crystalline nature, structure and surface morphology of silver nanoparticles produced from the plant Tecomella undulata. Size of synthesized AgNPs was in the range of 0.2–50 nm having round shaped type of morphology. These silver nanoparticles were found to have antibacterial properties against pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio cholera and Staphylococcus aureus. Based on their good antimicrobial function and nontoxicity, silver nanoparticles produced from plants have been used as an effective topical application for improving wound healing. And biosynthesized silver nanoparticles also having wide application in drug delivery. The bio-synthesized metallic nanoparticles may be used as an alternate to the antibiotics in treatment antibiotic resistant microorganism.
