Abstract

The primary objective of the research is to determine prevalence of metabolic comorbidities in obese children. Specifically, we aim to assess the occurrence of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, stress and depression in this population. This study is conducted upon children and adolescents aged 2-19 years. A total of 2874 studies was searched and collected from electronic databases like PubMed, PubMed Central and Google Scholar by the use of keywords. Upon implementation of inclusion and exclusion criteria and doing screening on the basis of title, abstract and full-text for the search of relevant data only 12 studies were able to make in the main study. The quality of included studies was assessed using New Castle Ottawa Scale. The data extraction was also done. The included studies are then assessed using Revman 5.1 Software. As a result with taking in consideration with odds ratio the findings are in this meta-analysis a low level of heterogeneity [Chi2=15.15, Tau2= 0.03, df=11(P=0.18), I2= 27%] and the total effect size denoted by z-value was found to be 19.69 and for risk ratio the study has a low level of heterogeneity[Chi2=16.08 Tau2=0.03, df =11(P=0.14), I2= 32%] and the total effect size which is denoted by Z-value was found to be 17.94. Both the parameters odds ratio and risk ratio was in the favor of the study and it was found that there is a higher risk of getting comorbidities in the children who are obese as compared to those who are non-obese.
