Abstract

Peak expiratory flow rate and its impact is a major concern after spinal cord injury which may interfere the full participation in a rehabilitation program. The mortality and morbidity ratio of population found out to be very high in spinal cord injury patient due to aggravating respiratory complications. A cross sectional study was conducted consisting of 15 subjects with subacute and chronic incomplete spinal cord injury. The peak expiratory flow rate values were recorded pre and post application of kinesiotape with the help of peak flow meter. The kinesiotape was applied to the rectus abdominis muscle area over abdomen in stretch position where the arms were flexed overhead. The tape was kept in position for 48 hours and after 48 hours post taping peak expiratory flow rate values were recorded. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences in peak expiratory flow rate while comparing both pre- and post-kinesiotape application on the rectus abdominis muscle. So, this study concluded that there was significant difference in efficacy of kinesio taping on peak expiratory flow rate of spinal cord injury patients.
