Abstract

Choledocholithiasis is the medical term used to describe the condition where stones are present in the common bile duct. The presence of stones in the common bile duct, known as Choledocholithiasis, can develop due to the creation of stones within the common bile duct or the movement of gallstones formed in the gallbladder into the duct. Selecting the perfect way of clearing common bile duct stone shall be grounded on the regional presence of expert endoscopists, accessibility of equipment used for laparoscopy and choledochoscopy, personal expertise of the surgeons, and the overall health status of the patient. The objective of the present investigation is a comprehensive study to review different surgical techniques in the management of choledocholithiasis. The methodology is a hospital-based retrospective descriptive study. First, a questionnaire and physical assessment were conducted, and then ERCP findings and common bile duct stone demographics were recorded. The current investigation comprises 35 patients with choledocholithiasis diagnosed by the Department of General Surgery (such as Laparoscopic and Open Common Bile Duct Exploration) were selected. The outcome of different surgical techniques was recorded. The outcomes of the analysis revealed that open Common Bile Duct Exploration and Laparoscopic CBDE (LCBDE) were the most common techniques used in the treatment of choledocholithiasis. In conclusion, Post Operative complications such as a biliary leak, retained stones, respiratory complications, jaundice, wound complications and readmission were common among the patients who underwent OCBDE compared with patients with LCBDE.
