Prevalence of Musculoskeletal Disorders in Cricketer

Abstract

The study's goal was to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal diseases in joints and the joints in human body that are most commonly involved in recreational cricket players. Methodology: With the help of a modified Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire the musculoskeletal disorders in 100 recreational cricket players, encompassing both men and women in the 18–26 age range, was conducted. Result. Prevalence of Musculoskeletal Disorders in recreational cricket players during last 12 months with trouble such as pain, numbness seen in shoulder joint (27%) followed by lower back (25%) and Neck (17%). In cricket, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders during the last 7 days is highest in the shoulder joint (13%) followed by the lower back (10%) and the neck (both at 10%). Cricketers who have suffered from musculoskeletal disorders during the past 12 months have been unable to do daily tasks (such as housework, job, hobbies) because of the trouble),seen in Shoulders (12%), followed by Lower Back (10%) and Neck (7%), upper back (7%) Ankles/ Feet (7%).Most of the subjects (39%) responded that shoulder problem is interfering with their normal activities during the last 12 months. Other prominent problems interfering with normal activities are lower back problems (35%) and neck problems (24%). Conclusion The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorder at shoulder, upper back and neck are reported as higher among these recreational cricket players. It is evident from the study that the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in cricket players is not depended on any specific age group, gender or dominance.
