Abstract

Background: Core stability may provide several benefits to the musculoskeletal system, from maintaining low back health to preventing knee ligament injury. Flatfoot is a condition of decrease in the medial longitudinal arch of the foot. Flexible flatfoot is a common deformity affecting adults. Bilateral flat foot cause more proximal lower limb dysfunctions, which lead to altered core stability. Methodology: In this case control study, 60college going students were taken as sample including 30 with normal foot and 30 with bilateral flat foot and we looked for core stability in them. Evaluation of core stability was done using a single time to failure prone Plank test and flat foot were assessed by Navicular drop test [NDT] .The population included between 18 to 25 year old young college students. Result: The result from statistical analysis of present study, correlation between plank time and ND RT [Normal] is -0.178 and for ND LT [Normal] is -0.015 the p value is greater than 0.05 and its is giving negative correlation hence correlation is not significant. And the correlation between planl time and ND RT [Bilateral] is -0.0823 and ND LT [Biilateral] is -0.259 which is also a negative correlation and the p value is greater than 0.05 hence correlation is not significant. Conclusion: In this current study there is no significant correlation between the flat foot and core stability because the sample size was relatively small and unequal proportion of participants and females are more prone to have flat foot than males.
