The Internet of Things (IoT) is an up-and-coming technology that connects a huge number of physical objects with unique identifiers to the Internet which enable these objects to collect and exchange data. Long-term and self-sustainable operations are key components for the realization of such a complex network and need devices that are capable of harvesting the required energy from available energy sources. Among the different energy harvesting methods available, such as solar, piezoelectric, and thermal energy, wireless energy harvesting (WEH) technique is one of the most capable solution due to its good stability, better availability, and ease of realization of the system. One of the major limitations while designing an RF energy-harvesting system is that it should operate at a high efficiency to harvest ambient RF energy from the surroundings. This paper presents an outline of WEH-enabled sensor device and analyzes various methods to improve the RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of the system. Cite the ArticleAleena VJ, Aksa. David.
