Abstract

Aim and Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the magnitude of alteration in the position of skeletal and soft tissue points A and B, points A (sA) and B (sB) with retraction of anterior teeth on lateral Cephalogram. Material And Method: Patients with a bimaxillary protrusion, treated with first premolar extractions followed by using a pre-adjusted appliance with maximum anchorage were included in the study. After the removal of the fixed appliance, radiographs were taken to evaluate the change in parameters between two-time intervals using the ‘t-test’. Result: Hard and soft tissue point A showed a mean change of (AFHP) 0.89±2.56 mm (p=.007) and SSFHP 1.59±2.78 mm (p=0.005). The change in point 'B’ hard and soft tissue BFHP is 1.34±3.84 mm (p=.007) and SIFHP is 1.54±4.40 mm (p=.007). However, the change was significant statistically only for SSFHP (p=0.005). For soft tissue, linear measurements of upper and lower lips changes in LSFH and LIFH, the mean change was 3.59±3.65 mm (p=0.000), and 4.04±4.47 mm (p=0.007) respectively. Conclusion: No statistical difference was observed at the skeletal point ‘A’ and point ‘B’ yet, the difference was relevant clinically. The spatial position of soft and hard tissue point ‘B’ and downwards and backward mandibular rotation leads to the changes seen. The reliability of mean cephalometric standards alone, for the dental movement along with the skeletal correction, mandibular rotation, and perioral soft tissue interactions is still a matter of concern.
