Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the quantitative impacts of hybrid head cabbage (Brassica capitata var. L.) varieties on the quality traits. The study was conducted from November 2018 to April 2019 under the agro ecology of Arba Minch where furrow irrigation was used. Three hybrid head cabbage varieties; K-500, Landini and Bandung were considered. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in 3x4 factorial arrangements with three biological repeats. The statistics indicated that physiological weight loss, vitamin C, Ca content and TSS, were significantly (P<0.05) affected by the variety. The highest fresh weight (1.5k/g), the lowest physiological weight loss or the most extended shelf life (25.3%) and highest Ca content (26.6 mg/100g) were recorded by Landini F1 variety whereas; highest Total soluble solid (6.25ºBrix) and highest vitamin C (18.8 mg /100g) were recorded by Bandung F1 and K-500 F1 variety respectively. However, there weren’t recorded significant differences among F1 varieties with fresh weight, dry matter and ash content.
