The concept of Visha is widely used in Ayurveda in different dimensions such as a poisonous drug, synonym of fast acting drugs, anything that creates Vishaada (sadness to mind and body by causing different diseases). Poisons are also used as a constituent in various multidrug formulations. So, it becomes necessary to use this poison judiciously for the benefits of human race. Certain drugs are known for their actions on heart. Poison is a substance which, when comes in contact, causes harmful effects on the human body. Among the various groups, as per the classification of poison, cardiac poison is a group which includes the poisons which directly or indirectly affects the heart, produces hazardous signs and symptoms which may lead to death. Cardiac poisons include toxic plants such as Aconite, Nicotine, Oleander, Digitalis, etc. These plants are mentioned in Ayurveda as Vatsanabha, Tamraparna, Karavira, Hritpatri, respectively. These are classified under Sthavara Visha and their toxic effects are also mentioned in Ayurveda. Aim: To compare the signs and symptoms of Hridayaprabhavaka Vishas and cardiac poison. Materials and Methodology: All the relevant Ayurveda and modern texts been studied to gather the data. Discussion: Total number of Lakshanas of Hridayaprabhavaka Vishas in ancient texts are twenty and sign and symptoms of cardiac poison are twelve in number. Most of the symptoms are similar in explanations, only terminologies used are different.
