Abstract

The present paper is made to highlight the need of getting aware of Moral Myopia. It is defined as the inability to see social ethics. Some people neglect what happens around them if it is none of their concern and mostly ignores injustice and unethical chores. Also, they don’t indulge in any social cause until and unless it leads to their self-interest which is one of the biggest problems we are facing in today’s world. One of the causes for moral myopia is the surrounding in which the person is raised, where moral ethics are not given emphasis or simply ignored most of the time. As time has passed from generation to generation, the meaning of moral values for the people has changed drastically according to them, according to their needs and they change from time to time as it pleases and suits them. From ancient times, humans have evolved so have their values. In the era of changing trends, the perception of human values has changed. Moral myopia is very common in real life and virtual life, both on a social and personal level because everyone with the changing trends has changed attitude and the warm feeling towards others has gone cold and dead. It results in a lack of understanding within the community which leads to distrust and hostility. Also, nowadays we see how it leads to terrorism, corruption, and anti-social behaviour which causes a state of turmoil, disorder, and bitterness. To conclude, Moral myopia is when we witness unethical behaviour and choose not to say anything or decide not to take any action against it. Moral values are kind of acknowledged because the modern world does not work that way. Moral Myopia can also be coined as ‘Moral Muteness’ and is a new social issue that needs to be raised to strive in today’s inhuman world.
