Abstract

The management of water in India faces significant challenges in both the level i.e., quality andquantity. In order to address these challenges and to source the rational and efficient management ofwater resources, it is necessary to understand the different issues involved in the water cycle works. Thus, hydrological models are important tools that have been used in water resource planning and itsmanagement. In this study the hydrology of Shivna sub-basin which flows along the northwestboundaries of the district Aurangabad is modelled, using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT). Its capacity is 0.951000 cu.km. It aims to simulate the stream flow, establish the waterbalance, and estimate the monthly volume inflow to Shivna river in order to help the managers tohandle and plan this important reservoir. This study uses total 30 years of data from year 1983 to2013. The study focuses on the creation, organization, and generation of input data. Input data likesoil condition, climatic condition etc. is been search using a Geographic Information System i.e. (ArcGIS) then the configuration of the data is to be done. Thereafter the basin delineation andHydrological Response Unit (HRU) definition is did using Arc SWAT. Once the HRU is defined theSWAT stimulation is done. After that the validation of the models is done for evaluating the stimulatedoutflow. The Coefficient of Determination (R²) is obtained as 0.8082. Evaluation of the results showsthat the results are satisfying; they show that this model can represent the overall hydrological regimeof the Shivnasub-basin.
