Abstract

The present work is conducted to identify the artificial recharge sites for recharging the groundwater level using GIS and Remote sensing techniques. The scarcity of ground water is keep on increasing day by day due to anthropogenic activities includes decrease in land cover and increase in land use, but the climatic conditions are also severely affected and results in decrease in rainfall and increase in land surface temperature. Most of the rain comes to earth goes under runoff and wasted. So, need of artificial recharge sites to be identified to increase the ground water, for zoning of artificial recharge sites, eight parameters were utilized such as; Slope Gradient, Geology, Geomorphology, Drainage Density, Land Use-Land Cover, Lineament Density, Existing Ground Water Status and Soil Pattern. The rank and weight were assigned using a Satty’s Analytical Hierarchical Process and by using the Weighted Overlay Toolset in ArcGIS then Result were found that 1707.84 Km2 having Very High Suitable Sites, 1565.05 Km2 having High Suitable Sites, 1404.80 Km2 having Moderate Suitable Sites, 260.47 Km2 having Low Suitable Sites and Finally 4.29 Km2 having Very Low Suitable Sites. So, wherever the very high and high suitable sites come, the suggested method for recharging the groundwater can be used for sustaining the availability of Ground water.
