Hydro-political Interactions: India-Nepal-Bangladesh

Abstract

Rivers are the only naturally occurring resource on land that threads nations though it also divides them bitterly. It’s the “preciousness' of freshwater that makes it’s “possession” an indicator of power and justifies it being a strategic commodity. Indeed, "Water in a Changing World", will assume greater salience and as it does, the drivers impacting water resources, whether climate variability and security issues or electricity-generation and migration, will need to be factored  in and solutions searched for. Transboundary River water sharing is one of the most significant issues that impair relations between India-Nepal and India-Bangladesh. This study revolves round the hydro-political interactions between India, Nepal and Bangladesh. As a result of which, radical changes in water policy have been suggested to create an atmosphere of confidence among riparians.
