Calibration and Validation of Micro-simulation (S-Paramics) Model for Merging Sections
Abstract: Recently, simulation models have been widely used across the world in terms of evaluation of the performance of different traffic facilities, such as normal sections, intersections, roundabout, etc., the economic evaluation and safety evaluation. To examine the accuracy and versatility of micro simulation programmes such as S-Paramics when modelling highways, is by calibrating and then validating the model against real life data taken from loop detectors. In this study, a …

Finite Element Modeling of Asphalt Concrete Pavement Reinforced with Geogrid by Using 3-D PLAXIS Software
Abstract: This paper presents an axisymmetric finite element (FE) model to analyze the behavior of unreinforced and geogrid reinforced asphalt concrete pavement subjected to various tire pressures. The model was loaded with an incremental loading from 100 to 600 kPa with 50 kPa increment and the critical pavement responses such as total stress and vertical surface deflection were determined for unreinforced and geogrid reinforced flexible pavement. The results indicated that during …

Improvement Assessment of Traffic Operating Condition by Applying Common Traffic Management Tools Using Corsim Simulation
Abstract: Attempt has been made to improve the performance of Mirpur road (Russell Square to Aarong) by applying some common traffic management tools. The analyses were performed by corridor simulation (CORSIM) software. The whole network was built in CORSIM and calibrated with the field data. The performances are evaluated based on the average delay and speed at intersections and major roads. It has been found that the operating condition of Mirpur …

Economic Assessment of Flyover
Abstract: The term flyover had become a byword and has elicited different reactions among common people. Some people showed indignation because they cannot foresee that by putting up this kind of structure may not ease the traffic congestion within an intersection but instead it complicates the traffic problem. This research study therefore, would be part of extensive study that was undertaken to determine effects of flyover construction to the way of …

Experimental Investigation on Utilization of Blast Furnace Slag as Fine Aggregate in Pavement Concrete
Abstract: Concrete is the second largest consumed material by human kind in the world. In this modern era, cement concrete pavements are in demand as compared to bituminous pavements in highway projects. In the recent time, under ages of green technology, the waste utilization in production of concrete especially for pavements is major concern of study. Blast furnace slag is one of the major wastes produced from steel processing plants around …

Rut Depth Modeling of Modified and Unmodified Asphalt Mixtures by Using Finite Element Approach
Abstract: Two asphalt cements (PG76-22 and PMB PG76-22) and two aggregate gradations used in the construction of surface and base courses were selected to study their effect on the mixtures’ rutting behavior. A dynamic modulus and wheel tracking tests were performed to determine the rutting potential of asphalt mixtures at different temperature levels. The study revealed that modified asphalt cement (PMB PG76-22) with coarse aggregate gradation (base course) may offer more …

Financial Impact Due to Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy of Asian Development Bank in Implementation of Highway Projects under NCRPB Scheme
Abstract: Road Infrastructure is considered as the backbone of nation’s development. India’s road network is still in developing stage. There is a need of robust investment in national highways and state highways. Due to lack in investment inflows only 10690 Km out of the target of 50621 Km have been achieved by Govt. of India. Financial institutions like World Bank, Asian Development Bank, provide finance in form of infrastructure loans. ADB …
