An Optimized Configuration of Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) for High Birefrigent and Low Loss Application using FDTD Method
Abstract: AbstractTwo simplified structures are theoretically designed for high birefringence and low loss guiding photonic crystal fiber at operating wavelength 1.55 µm. The effective index, birefringence and confinement loss are obtained using finite difference time domain method. Simulation result shows that the maximum modal birefringence is equal to 86.33x10-5 for one configuration and lowest confinement loss in another configuration is nearly equal to 0.70x10-2 dB/Km at same operating wavelength.Keyword: birefringence, FDTD …

Implementation of All-Optical Logic Gate using SOA-MZI Structures
Abstract: AbstractSemiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) are very attractive nonlinear elements for the realization of different logic functions, since they can exhibit a strong change of the refractive index together with high gain. In this paper, a principle of operation, simulation step and experimental result of different all-optical logic gate (AND Gate, OR Gate, XOR Gate) are well presented. These gates are based on the nonlinearities on SOAs. The experimental results are …

Improved Performance Characteristics of a Designed 1050 nm Bottom Emitting MQW VCSEL using Al0.25Ga0.22In0.53As/InP Materials
Abstract: AbstractIn this work, the design and performance characteristics of a bottom emitting Al0.25Ga0.22In0.53As/InP Multi-Quantum Well (MQW) Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSEL) have been presented for operation at a wavelength of 1050 nm. The transparency carrier density and bandgap energy of the QW and barrier materials are computed. An improved performance of the designed VCSEL has been obtained by selecting a material with high gain and lower transparency carrier density in the …

Performance Analysis and Optimization of a 1550 nm MQW VCSEL by Varying Differential Gain and Injection Current
Abstract: AbstractIn this work, the performance characteristics of a 1550 nm top emitting multi quantum well (MQW) vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) using AlGaInAs/InP are presented. Using this material the peak material gain is obtained as 1652.3 cm-1. A high performance designed VCSEL is obtained with the optimized value of differential gain and injection current. The optical output power of 31.37 dBm and the resonance frequency of 2.5 GHz are …

High Reflectivity Semiconductor-glass Grating Structure for SOI Application
Abstract: AbstractHigh reflectance of semiconductor-glass (GaAs-BSG, InP-FS, GaAs-FS, Ge-BK7, Ge-BSG) grating SOI structure at wavelength 1.55 µm is thoroughly investigated in this paper. Simulation result showed that, reflectivities are 99.01, 99.03, 99.20, 99.29 and 99.47% at wavelength 1.55 µm for GaAs-BSG, InP-FS, GaAs-FS, Ge-BK7, Ge-BSG grating SOI structure, respectively. This simulation is carried out using plane wave expansion method. Present simulation gives effective result as compared to existing result. Keywords: semiconductor-glass grating, …
