Liquid Crystals as Novel Drug Carrier: A Review
Abstract: Liquid crystal is a thermodynamic stable phase characterized by anisotropic properties, generally lying in the temperature range between the solid and isotropic liquid phase, hence are termed mesophase. Based on the way that liquid crystals are obtained, they can be classified into two types—thermotropic liquid crystals and lyotropic liquid crystals. The thermotropic liquid crystal is generated by variation of temperature in the liquid state, while the lyotropic liquid crystal is …

Drug Delivery Systems and Innovations
Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop a controlled release system targeting antibiotic distribution to the stomach. The hydrogels were synthesized by utilizing chitosan, poly(acrylic acid) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) polymers cross linked with glutaraldehyde and N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide. Interpenetrating polymeric network (IPN) hydrogels were compare by varying the concentration of crosslinking agent (glutaraldehyde). The amount of chitosan, poly(acrylic acid), poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and N, N’-methylenebisacrylamide were kept constant in all formulations. …

Formulation and Characterization of Mesoporous Nanoparticulate Drug Delivery Platform
Abstract: The aim of this study was to synthesize and characterize mesoporous silica nanoparticles, namely, SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous) and MCM-41 (Mobile Crystalline Material) as a drug delivery platform. These MSNs have been synthesized using triblock copolymer F 127, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as a co-surfactant and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica precursor. The synthesized MSNs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), particle size …

Formulation and Evaluation of an Antifungal Emulgel Containing Carbopol 940 as Gelling Agent
Abstract: Emulgels have emerged as one of the most intriguing topical distribution systems as they have dual release control system, i.e., gel and emulsion. The main purport of the present study was to develop and evaluate topical emulgel system for Fluconazole, antifungal agent, utilizing different polymers namely carbopol 940. In addition, light liquid paraffin as oil, Tween-20 and Span-20 as emulsifiers and propylene glycol and methyl alcohol as co-surfactant were culled …
