Effectiveness of Semi-Active Variable Stiffness Tuned Mass Damper for Seismic Load Using LQR Control
Abstract: In this study, effectiveness of semi-active variable stiffness tuned mass damper in reducing seismic response of 10-story frame structure is evaluated. The variable stiffness device, comprising four spring, having rhombus configuration, adapted from literature is attached to the tuned mass damper. A control algorithm using state space form of governing equation of motion is developed. LQR controller is employed to obtain control force based on displacement and velocity response feedback. …

Experimental analysis of quaternary cement binder
Abstract: As concrete structure emitted large amount of carbon dioxide in the environment, to reduce these emition, need to minimize use of cement by using supplementary cementious material such as fly ash, silica fume, rice husk, ground granulated blast furnace slag etc. As quaternary blended cement concrete is prepared by replacing of cement with cementious material is good option for this. In this research quaternary blended cement concrete prepared by using …

Solid Waste Management System in Pabna Municipality of Bangladesh: A Case Study
Abstract: The increasing quantity of solid waste is a growing environmental problem in many developing countries like Bangladesh. Solid waste is indiscriminately dumped on roadsides, near dustbins and into open drains thus leading to serious health risk and degradation of living environment for people of most cities like Pabna. This paper presents the existing solid waste management system of Pabna municipality. Primary data were collected from householders and waste workers through …

Comparative study on defluoridation by adsorption using rice husk ash, tamarind seed powder and activated
Abstract: In the present study, the ability and suitability of low cost adsorbents such as rice husk ash (RHA), tamarind seed powder (TSP) to adsorb fluoride ions was investigated in jar test apparatus and results were compared with that of commercially available activated charcoal powder (ACP). The major parameters such as pH, concentration of F- ions, stirring rate, contact time and different adsorbent dosages were studied and optimized. The maximum removal …

Explaining the Cost Performance and Maturity of Transportation Infrastructure in the Developed and Developing World: One Size Fits All?
Abstract: AbstractScholarly text analysing the financial performance of highway projects are evident in the literature, most of which have opined that highway agencies record higher levels of cost overruns compared to other clients of construction and building works. Similar assertions are made about the relatively higher levels of cost overruns recorded on highway projects executed in the developing world. A scant number of seminal works have emerged in the literature, offering …
