GIS and Remote Sensing in Mapping Aquatic Vegetation, The Food Source of Waterfowl
Abstract: Carrying out time and cost effective field surveys has always been a great concern of ecological studies of a large spatial scale. We studied the possibilities to map the distribution of submerged aquatic vegetation in a shallow lake using satellite imagery. We also went further to investigate the relationship of the predicted biomass per creek and bird densities. The study was carried out with an IKONOS image of the Lauwersmeer …

Bland-Altman Analysis for Evaluating AHP-based Wildlife Habitat Suitability Models
Abstract: The paper targets in establishing the potential of Bland-Altman analysis integrated with geospatial approach in habitat suitability ecological studies for species conservation. Assessing agreement between two measurement methods can be done by using Bland-Altman plots and calculating limits of agreement and hence compares two assay methods. This method is tried in this study for evaluating suitable habitats for tiger. The study incorporates Geographic Information System – Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (GIS-MCDA) …

Designing of a Simple, High Performance Nitrogen Laser for Laser Induced Florescence (LIF) Studies
Abstract: Laser is a very important tool in various disciplines. Due to high costs in other traditional lasers such as Nd: YAG laser, many schools, colleges and universities in Namibia could not afford to buy or maintain expensive lasers. Therefore, we propose a design for construction of a simple Nitrogen laser for Laser Induced Florescence (LIF) studies in Namibia (UNAM). The N2 laser design will be constructed in the structure of …
