IRI and GPS TEC Variations over Ilorin, Nigeria
Abstract: Diurnal and day-to-day variations of vertical total electron content (VTEC) over an equatorial region (Ilorin, Nigeria; geographic 8.50°N, 4.55°E; geomagnetic 10.60°N, 78.41°E) is presented in this paper using data from the IRI model and from the AFRL-SCINDA (Air Force Research Laboratory – Scintillation Network Decision Aid) GPS receiver installed at the Ilorin station. A comparison between VTEC data from the two sources is also presented since a major concern in …

Land Surface Temperature Analysis in an Urbanising Landscape through Multi-Resolution Data
Abstract: Rapid changes in the land use and land cover of a region have become a major environmental concern in recent times. This has lead to unsustainable development with the reduction of green spaces and also changes in local climate and formation of urban heat islands (UHIs). Monitoring and management of land use dynamics would help in land use planning and mitigation of environmental impacts. The main goal of this paper is …

Land Use and Land Cover Analysis of Jharkhand Using Satellite Remote Sensing
Abstract: IRS P6 LISS III data was used to delineate different land use/land cover classes of Jharkhand using visual interpretation technique. Tone and texture were found most important for interpretation of different objects. A total of 42 classes of different land use/land cover categories were interpreted. Agricultural land with current fallow and forest areas dominated the landscape of Jharkhand by occupying 49% and 30% of total geographical area, respectively. Built-up (urban …

Normalized Difference of Polinsar Coherence for Classification of Earth Covers
Abstract: The use of the interferometric SAR is extremely urgent for conditions of Siberia, nearly accessible and often covered by clouds. The polarimetric radar interferometry (PolInSAR) makes it possible to analyze the coherence of interferometric couples that provides additional information. This work makes an attempt to use a difference of polarimetric coherence value for the different types of classifications of the earth’s surface. As the processing method, it is proposed to …

On the Contribution of E- and D-Layer to Weak Geomagnetic Storm Events in South Africa
Abstract: Data from five ionosonde in Southern Africa have been analyzed to better appreciate the contributions of the E- and D-layers of the ionosphere in this region to weak geomagnetic storms. This attempt to quantify the exact contributions of the D and E-layers to weak geomagnetic storms during period of relatively quiet Sun has never been done in this region before. The results suggest that the E-layers contribute more than the …

Remote Sensing-based Analysis of Critical Bends of Kushiyara River in Bangladesh
Abstract: Streams are continually changing position as a consequence of hydraulic forces acting on their beds and banks. This stress is mainly a result of climatic changes from year to year in the amount of waterflow variation that occurs in the stream [1]. The present study has been conducted to scrutinize the meandering parameters at critical bends of Kushiyara river using remote sensing technology and geographic information system (GIS). The name …

Shock Response Spectrum and Its Damage Potential: An Application to Launch Vehicle Structures
Abstract: The present work briefly summarizes the analysis of pyrotechnic shocks encountered in launch vehicle structures using the shock response spectrum (SRS) and the pseudo velocity shock response spectrum techniques. The mathematical idealization assumes a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system model with base excitation. The mounting elements of SDOF system are assumed to be flexible and each mounting element can be described by its stiffness and damping parameters. The convolution …
