Determining the Antimicrobial Activity of Lactic Acid Bacillus against Candida albicans
Abstract: Candida albicans is human commensal yeast that colonizes the gastrointestinal tract in over half of healthy individuals. Candida are almost universal in low numbers on healthy adult skin and C. albicans is part of the normal flora of the mucous membranes of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and female genital tracts. The present study was carried out to determine their antimicrobial and antagonistic effect against the Candida albicans. The Lactic Acid Bacillus …

Detection of Hepatitis B Virus Coinfection among HIV Infected Patients in District Bharatpur, Rajasthan
Abstract: Aim: To screen for the coinfection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients. Methods: Hundred consecutive HIV infected patients were screened for HBV (HBsAg) using commercially available ELISA kit. Results: HBV coinfection was detected in 5/100 (5%) HIV infected patients. Male gender predominance was observed (80%), (four males and one female) and the median age was 37 years (95%CI ± 3.6) (range 20–55 years). Coinfection …

Vaccination—A Novel Agent Against Bacterial Drug Resistance
Abstract: Increase in the mortality and morbidity due to infection has been on rise due to the presence of multidrug resistant organisms. Several mechanisms have been evolved to overcome the effect of multidrug resistance of bacteria including antibacterial stewardship programs. Recently the application of vaccination has been seen as a tool against bacterial drug resistance. Keywords: bacterial drug resistance, vaccines, morbidity, mortalityCite this ArticleManderwad GP, Raj Kumar HRV. Vaccination—A novel agent …

Evaluation of Antibiofilm Potential of Alginate Encapsulated Selenium Nanoparticles
Abstract: Biofilm interfere in antibiotic therapy, undergo gene transformation to become highly virulent, develop quorum sensing and protect bacteria from host immunity. To combat these biofilms the encapsulation method of nanoparticles formation using PEG can be used as they are better alternative to chemical and physical methods. In the present study, the antibiofilm and antioxidant properties of the selenium nanoparticles produced by using probiotics have been evaluated. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) …

Antifungal Activity of Thymol on Vegetable Tanned Leather
Abstract: Thymol is a key component of many essential oils and acts as active antimicrobial agent. It is a natural monoterpene phenol extracted from thyme, bishop’s weed (ajwain) and many other plants in varied quantities. Literature has marked for its successful application as antimicrobial activity. Thymol is used actively for its antibacterial and antifungal properties in agriculture and the field of medicine. In this research an attempt has been made to …

Isolation and Characterization of Rhamnolipid from Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Assessment of Biofilm Disruption Potential
Abstract: Biosurfactants are microbial metabolites bearing typical amphiphilic structure of a surfactant. This study is aimed at isolation and characterization of Rhamnolipid (RL) biosurfactant from Pseudomonas aeruginosa MTCC 2488. Characterization of biosurfactant was assessed by oil displacement test, foaming test, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and antimicrobial activity for the same was evaluated against planktonic/sessile microbes including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. An Update on HIV-2 Infection
Abstract: Human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV–2) infection is an important cause of disease in a number of regions of the world. But the knowledge about this infection is sparse. Prevalence data on HIV-2 is heterogeneous. HIV-2 has a lower infectivity than HIV-1 which can be related to the lower RNA levels in this virus. The rate of progression to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in HIV-2-infected patients is highly variable making …

Formulated Biofertilizer—An Effective Approach to Improve Growth and Nutrient Uptake in Crops: A Systemic Review
Abstract: An alternative to mineral fertilizers is the biofertilizers which is one of the important components of integrated nutrient management as these are cost effective and renewable source of plant nutrients to supplement the chemical fertilizers for sustainable agriculture. The use of microorganisms in agriculture as bioinoculant is a very important practice and a growing need too. In spite of countless research, the rate of success is remarkably low. To get …

Black Tea: Leveraging Human Health from Indian Perspective
Abstract: Tea, the most preferred drink in the world after water, has been under intense research in recent years due to its fascinating chemical composition. Major polyphenolic compounds— theaflavins (TF), residual catechins, thearubigins as well as theanine and caffeine—present in black tea (BT) contribute to color, distinctive flavor and play significant roles both for quality of tea and act as a safeguard against many ailments. Antioxidants present in BT act against …

Inhibitory Action of Sodium Tellurite on Uropathogenic Bacteria
Abstract: The objective of the present study was to predict the toxic properties of sodium tellurite against selected uropathogenic bacteria. A group of nine clinical isolates of different uropathogenic bacteria isolated from urine in suspected cases of urinary tracts infection Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter baumannii, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were collected and utilized for screening tests. The spectrum of toxic properties …
