Comparison of the Keratinase Gene Sequences of Fast, Slow and Intermediate Feather Degrading Strains of Bacillus licheniformis
Abstract: Feathers are composed of beta keratin which is an insoluble protein resistant to degradation. Bacillus licheniformis has a gene that codes for a keratinase enzyme that hydrolyzes feathers. The DNA sequences of the genes coding for keratinase enzymes of various strains of B. licheniformis were compared. Some strains of the bacteria hydrolyze feathers rapidly, some slowly, and some at an intermediate rate. The mature keratinase enzyme is composed of 274 …

Helicobacter pylori Sialic Acid-Specific Surface Lectin Associated with Pathogenecity Island cag PAI
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Helicobacter pylori bacterium causing gastritis, duodenitis, non-ulcer dyspepsia, adenocarcinoma, MALT lymphoma and now-a-days causing hepatocellular carcinoma and cholengiocarcinoma has been studied for its surface antigens. There are many virulence factors which have been studied since many years. Cag-PAI is the site for virulence and causes mixed infections. Sialic acid is a type of glycan which is a surface lectin associated with adherence to cell …

Potentiality of Bacteriocins as the Attachment Inhibitors of HIV-1 gp120
Abstract: It is postulated that some bacteriocin derivatives are consummate candidates to inhibit the binding of HIV gp120 to CD4 T-cell. From the discovery of bacteriocin compounds in 1925 and forth, nearly 300 bacteriocins have been identified. Of various bacteriocins, there are some which have been used successfully for inhibiting both animal and human pathogens. Unfortunately, no large extent research has been found in the development of various bacteriocins as HIV …

Antimicrobial, Antioxidant Evaluation of Majestic Darjeeling Green and Black Tea during Storage
Abstract: Three months storage in ambient temperature and humidity causes the changes in biochemical (antioxidant) and antimicrobial properties of Darjeeling green and black tea. Having higher extent of total polyphenol and non-enzymatic antioxidant flavonoid content green teas are able to show higher antioxidant and antimicrobial activities against different microorganisms. Due to manufacturing procedures (greater extent of fermentation) some of the enzyme activities (including antioxidant enzyme catalase, phenylalanine ammonia lyase) are lowered …

Distribution and Prevalence of the Ameobiasis in Tepi Town and Around Tepi Town in the Year of 2003 to 2004 Ethiopian Calendar
Abstract: Enthoamoebahistolytica are more prevalent in the poor segment of the population with low income, poor handling of personal or environmental sanitation, over-crowding the limited access to clean water. The main objective of this study was to investigate the distribution and prevalence of amobiasis in Tepi town. The secondary data were collected according to age ranges grouped as 0–18, 19–30, and 31–60 years and above 60 years. The percentages of infected …
