Fluconazole Resistance among Candida species Causing Vulvovaginitis
Abstract: Yeasts have emerged as a prominent cause of vaginal infections in community and hospitalized patients. Majority of cases of Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) are caused by Candida albicans however, episodes due to non-albicans Candida appear to be increasing in the recent years leading to increase medical concern. Most non-albicans Candida species have higher minimum-inhibitory concentration (MIC) to fluconazole and infections caused by these species are often difficult to treat. This study …

In vitro Demonstration of Biofilm Formation on Catheter Materials by Candida Species Isolated from Blood Stream Infections
Abstract: In recent years, a progressive increase in the frequency of nosocomial candidaemia has been observed. Candidaemia due to vascular catheters are on the rise. There are many associated risk factors such as the type of patient, catheter location, frequency of change of cannulae, duration of catheterization, etc. Candida species produce biofilms on synthetic materials, which facilitate adhesion of the organisms to devices and render them relatively refractory to medical therapy. …

Molecular Cloning, Expression, Purification, and Characterization of Methionine Aminopeptidase
Abstract: MAP enzyme can efficiently remove N-terminal methionine from recombinant proteins. In the present study, MAP gene from genomic DNA of Escherichia coli was amplified, cloned into pET 11b vector and transformed into E.coli DH5a cloning strain to confirm the insertion of MAP gene, then plasmid was transformed into E. coli BL21 (DE3) expression strain. The protein was eluted with 25 mM NaCl and showed a purity of ~ 95% which …

Prospective of the Application of Synthetic Biology to Engineered Genetic Circuits
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Synthetic biology is the engineering of biological system for the creation of useful and novel properties into the system. This subject tries to use bottom-up approach to answer some of the basic questions in biology like why nature has done something in one way instead of the other. Feedback loops have been used extensively in making genetic circuits through synthetic biology approach …
