Biotherapeutic Antibacterial Activity of Some Medicinal Plants Against Predominant Bacteria Causing Dental Caries
Abstract: Dental caries is a microbial disease of the calcified tissues of the teeth, characterized by demineralization of inorganic portion and destruction of the organic substance of the tooth. It is most prevalent chronic disease affecting the human race. The in vitro antibacterial activity of some medicinal plants was studied against pathogenic bacteria causing dental caries. Leaves were extracted using petroleum ether, chloroform, acetone, methanol and distilled water. Among the five …

Biochemical and Kinetic Investigations of Partially Purified Thermostable Acid Phosphatases from Solanum tuberosum and Citrus limonium
Abstract: Biochemical and kinetic properties of partially purified thermostable acid phosphatases from Solanum tuberosum and Citrus limonium involving ammonium sulphate fractionation have been investigated. The maximum specific activity in Solanum tuberosum and Citrus limonium was found in 40–80% (ACP I) and 0–40% (ACP II) fractions, respectively. The specific activities of ACP I and ACP II were 46.01 and 48.00 units mg − 1 with Km values of 1.00 and 2.50 mM, …

Histological and Histochemical Study of Byssus Gland in Mytilus Viridis
Abstract: Histochemical localization of proteins, certain important amino acids like tyrosine tryptophan, and amino acids containing –S–S– and NH2 groups, lipids (free, bound and unsaturated) and carbohydrates (simple as well as conjugated) was done to find out the nature of byssus secreted by the foot gland. This study gave an insight into the mechanism of secretion of different components of byssus by different types of gland cells. The gland is exocrine …

In vitro Combination Studies of Antibiotics against Bacterial Pathogens
Abstract: Antibiotic-resistant microorganisms are emerging worldwide and causing serious complications. As these microorganisms are resistant to most of the contemporary antibiotics, their control is becoming as a global health concern. Therefore, there is a need for new alternative compounds or strategies that are effective against these microbial infections and in preventing or delaying their resistance. This study was carried out to test Rifampicin as an adjuvant therapeutic agent in the treatment …

Production of Phosphatase by Phosphate Solubilizing Improved Fungal Strains
Abstract: Phosphate solubilizing micro-organisms were isolated from rhizosphere soils of rice fields around Mannachanalur area, Tiruchirappali district of Tamilnadu. The isolated fungal cultures were identified as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus and Penicillium sp. The efficacy of Phosphatase activity of fungal strains was carried out. The fungal strains were subjected to random mutational studies such as UV and chemical mutation. The Phosphatase assay was carried out after random mutagenesis using wild and …

Trichodina Parasites Infections on Gills of Some Freshwater Fishes from Qena, Egypt
Abstract: Freshwater fishes were sampled from different localities in the River Nile at Qena Governorate (Qus, Qift, Dandara, El-Trammsa, El-Maana, Dishna, and Nag-Hammady). The investigated fishes are, Oreochromis niloticus, Tilapia zilli and Ctenopharyngodon idella. Three Trichodina species isolated, Trichodina centrostrigeata Basson and Van As, 1994, Trichodina magna Van As and Basson, 1992, and Trichodina epizootica Raabe, 1950 from the freshwater fishes in Qena, Egypt. The prevalences were 10%, 27.27% and 68.18%, …
