Assessment of Metal Concentrations in Water from the Downstream Segment of New Calabar River, Port Harcourt Segment of New Calabar River, Port Harcourt
Abstract: The downstream segment of the New Calabar River, Port Harcourt has been a major source of water and sea foods for the inhabitants. The concentration of heavy and trace metals such as Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Copper (Cu) and Iron (Fe) in water were investigated between January – December, 2016 using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that station 2 had the highest concentration of the metals …

Growth and condition of Eleotris vittata from New Calabar River Port Harcourt Nigeria
Abstract: The growth and condition of Eleotris vittata was studied in the New Calabar River from samples collected over a period of twelve months. This study was to provide the much needed data for the management of the stock as there was hardly any information on the species from that water body. Regression analysis using the power curve “W = aTLb” showed that the growth of the fish was negatively allometric …

Evaluation on the Sensitivity of the Freshwater Tropical Worm, Branchiura sowerbyi (Beddard, 1892) to the Pyrethroid Pesticide, Bifenthrin
Abstract: In the present study, acute toxicity of the pyrethroid pesticide, bifenthrin, was evaluated under the experimental condition to the freshwater tropical oligochaete worm, Branchiura sowerbyi. The 96 h LC50 with 95% confidence limits of B. sowerbyi was 1.043(0.721-1.327) μg/l. None of the unexposed control test animal died during the experiment. Relation between each concentration and mortality rate during 24–96 h was found to be correlated. The mortality rate varied significantly …

Seasonal Diversity of Copepods in Relation with Physico-Chemical Status of Kolar River, Saoner, Dist. Nagpur (Maharashtra State), India
Abstract: The present study is focused on the seasonal variations of copepods in relations with the physic-chemical parameters of Kolar River Seasonal changes in physic-chemical parameters such as water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and inorganic contents were studied month wise from June 2011 to May 2012. Studies showed the seasonal fluctuations in water temperature (20.2◦c to 27.3◦c), conductivity (277μS/cm to 401μS/cm), pH (7.6 to 8.5), total alkalinity (146 mg/l to 186 …

Litterfall Dynamics in different Forest Types of Kumaun Himalaya
Abstract: Litterfall and forest floor data was collected seasonally from 11 different forest types including degraded forests and 3 plantations in Kumaun Himalaya. Litterfall in different forest types varied from 1.25 t/ha for Degraded sal forest to 6.97 t/ha for High altitude oak forest. Among plantations poplar plantation showed highest litter fall (7.24 t ha-1). Most of the forest types were observed with maximum litterfall during summer season. Temperate Conifer forest …
