Bioaccumulation, Phytoremediation and Kinetics of Uptake of Heavy Metals (Copper and Zinc) by Eichhornia crassipes
Abstract: AbstractPhytoremediation is cost effective and environmental friendly. This paper presents the importance of phytoremediation with particular emphasis on rhizofiltration, kinetics of bioaccumulation and uptake factor in Eichhornia crassipes. The present study tried to highlight the effectiveness of the aquatic plant, E. crassipes, in removing heavy metals (Cu and Zn) from aquatic solutions. The plant was exposed to 0.5 mg/L concentration of copper and zinc and their uptake was measured after …

Impact of Lubricants from Renewable Resources on Industry and Environment
Abstract: AbstractIncreased probability of extinction of world’s fossil oil reserves, raised oil prices and the worldwide approach to defend the environment against pollution, exerted by undisciplined disposal of lubricants have brought greater interest in the development and use of eco-friendly lubricants. Various techniques like physiochemical extraction, thermochemical, and biochemical processes are presently used to develop such eco-friendly lubricants. Vegetable sources continue to be important biomass feedstock in formulation of such lubricants …

Monitoring Water Quality of Two Lakes of Belgaum District (Karnataka) with Special Reference to Phytoplankton
Abstract: AbstractA study on physico-chemical characteristics of the Fort Lake and Wadral Lake of Belgaum (Karnataka) was made to monitor the quality of water. Fort Lake exhibits slight alkalinity with pH ranging from 7.3 to 8.0, electrical conductivity 230–310 μS/cm, BOD 0.246–2.0876 mg/L, total hardness 89.33–126.66 mg/L, and total alkalinity 1.52–2.466 mg/L whereas the Wadral Lake water is alkaline with respect to pH variation from 7.8 to 8.1, electrical conductivity 280–430 …
