An Anthropometric Analysis of the Key Foramina for Maxillofacial Surgery in Indian Population A Skull Study
Abstract: The aim of the study was to determine the location of important maxillofacial foramina relative to frequently encountered surgical landmarks among the Indian population. Various measurements (864) were made on 75 human dry skulls and 57 mandibles to evaluate the position of supraorbital, infraorbital and mental foramina. The method employed was same as that followed by Cutright et al. in their study. Analysis of the data determined the supraorbital foramen …

Cross Infection Control in Impression Making Procedures A Pilot Survey
Abstract: Dental care professionals are at high risk of cross-infection while treating patients. This occupational potential for disease transmission becomes evident when it is considered that most human microbial pathogens have been isolated from oral secretion. The present survey was conducted with the aim of investigating the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour of dental staff and students toward cross-infection control during the procedure of impression making. A questionnaire consisting of 16 questions …

Dental Professional's Role in Early Detection of Oral Carcinoma- A Review
Abstract: It is well known today that early diagnosis of oral carcinoma greatly increases the probability of cure, therefore leading to minimum impairment and deformity. Oral cancer incidence rose dramatically during the 20th century in the United States and Europe. Delays in the diagnosis of oral cancer are universal and affect a significant number of patients throughout the world. Clinical examination and diagnostic techniques can lead to the early detection of …

Interceptive Orthodontics A Short Review
Abstract: The term interceptive orthodontics used in this paper is defined as the prompt treatment of unfavourable features of a developing occlusion categorized as local factors, crowding and displacements of the mandible in closing from the rest position. Interceptive orthodontics is defined as a phase of science and art of orthodontics employed to recognize and eliminate the potential irregularities and malpositions in the developing dentofacial complex. Guidance of the eruption and …

Lattice Parameter and Grain Size of Hydroxyl apatite of Enamel that Exposured by Sunti Acid (Averrhoa bilimbi l)
Abstract: The structure of Hydroxyl apatite (HA) were changed by acid exposure both in the core and crystal wall in 180 min. Sunti acid (Averrhoa bilimbi l) is one of the most popular traditional foods in Aceh that has a pH 2.1 that could improve the structure of HA. Nanostructure change of the HA ultimately affect the strength and macro structure of tooth enamel. The objective of this study is to …

Monostotic Fibrous Dysplasia: Facial Swellings A Diagnostic Conundrum
Abstract: Asymmetrical swelling of the mandible in children may pose a significant diagnostic dilemma. The differential diagnosis ranges from traumatic, infectious, and metabolic processes to benign and malignant tumors that may present with similar clinical and radiological features, making an accurate diagnosis quite difficult. This is an illustrative case involving an 11-year-old girl who initially presented with tumefaction of the mandible and after several investigations and referrals were diagnosed as Monostotic …

An Update on the Virulence Factors of Actinobacillus Actinomycetemcomitans A Systematic Review
Abstract: Over the last 20 years, research on Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) a periodontopathogen, has provided a tremendous amount of information as a major anaerobic, opportunistic pathogen. Elucidation of the virulence in Aa is especially difficult because of this bacteri pathogenicity being multifaceted, including both microbial and host factors and the inability to clearly define the disease state of many forms of destructive periodontal disease. The objectives of this study were to …

Stem Cells in Dentistry A Review
Abstract: While the regeneration of a lost tissue is known to mankind for several years, it is only in the recent past that research on regenerative medicine/dentistry has gained momentum and eluded the dramatic yet scientific advancements in the field of molecular biology. The growing understanding of biological concepts in the regeneration of oral/dental tissues coupled with experiments on stem cells is likely to result in a paradigm shift in the …

Surface Structure of Hydroxyl Apatite from Fluorosis Enamel
Abstract: Fluorosis is a condition due to ingestion of excessive amounts of Fluor that can cause the change in teeth structure and strength. Currently, a poor explanation was available to describe the surface structure of crystal hydroxylapatite that contributes to influence the macro characteristic of fluorosis enamel. The objective of this research is to describe the surface structure of crystal hydroxylapatite (HA) in fluorosis enamel. Scanning Electron Microscopy/ Energy Disperse X-Ray …

Use of Light Curing Units in Orthodontics: A Review
Abstract: Light curing units, because of their wide field of applications, are now indispensable for an orthodontist or a general dentist, and hence it is very important to be familiar with the various types of light curing units, their history, specifications, advantages, and disadvantages. To find the articles appropriate for this systematic review, a search was conducted in the database PubMed (from 1966 to March 2010) using the terms abstracts of …
