Assessing the Yield and Profitability of Rice in Eastern Terai and Mid-Hills of Nepal using Nutrient Expert-Rice Model
Abstract: The productivity of rice in Nepal is very less as compared to other developed countries of world which might be due to less and imbalanced use of fertilizer and lack of site specific nutrient management technologies. Materials and Methods: Different sets of field experiments were conducted at farmers’ field in Jhapa (Dhukurpani-Damakand Gauradha), Morang (Itahara and Babiyabirta) towards the Eastern Terai and Lamjug (Bhotewodar and Sundarbazaar) towards the Mid-hill, Nepal …

Rust Resistance in Hexaploid Wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em Thell)
Abstract: Wheat (Triticum aestivum L. Em Thell) is the ‘golden grain’ of the cereals and plays a vital role in the contribution of global food. Wheat yield in India grew at a rate of 3.5% during 1940–82 and had a sudden decline during the next two decades to 2.9%. This decline can be attributed due to: (1) lack of improvement in the genetic yield potential, and (2) susceptibility to diseases. The …

Antifungal Potential of Plant Extracts against Alternaria solani, causing Early Blight of Tomato
Abstract: AbstractAqueous extracts of five plants with anti-microbial properties were evaluated for suppression of growth of Alternaria solani in laboratory conditions. At low concentration of 2%, four extracts including (Azadirachta indica) failed to suppress the growth. One extract (Putranjiva roxburghii) showed significant suppression of pathogen growth at low concentration, according to Analysis of variance, Tukey’s post-test. Some extracts (Melia azedarach and Tabernaemontana divaricata) on the contrary promoted the growth significantly more …

Correlation and Variability among Yield and Yield Attributes of Advance Rice Genotypes in Rain Fed Condition
Abstract: AbstractThe present research consists of 12 rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes and the experiment was conducted during June–November, 2017 in randomized block design with the three replications at NARC, Kumaltar. The data were recorded for ten quantitative characters to study genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance and correlation coefficient analysis. Analysis of variance among 12 genotypes showed significant difference for all characters studied except non-effective tiller. Grain yield had positive significant …

Production Potential, Economics, Energetics and GHG Emission Potentials of Paddy based Cropping System in a Micro-watershed under Damodar Catchment, West Bengal under Hot, Moist, Sub-Humid Agro-Ecological Zone
Abstract: AbstractThe Damodar catchment area in West Bengal is primarily dominated by rice-rice mono-cropping system. The present study was conducted in three villages through Naopara, Kantia and Syamsundarpur in the Barddhaman district of West Bengal; to explore the potentials of integrating other field crops in the existing rice based cropping system towards improving the monetary productivity and farmers’ livelihood. Field experiments were conducted taking different cropping systems through rice–rice, rice–potato–black gram, …
