Evaluating Diagrid Systems: A Modern Approach to Lateral Load Resistance Across Varied Building Heights
Abstract: Modern architectural design and engineering often incorporate advanced structural systems, with diagrid structures becoming popular for high-rise buildings due to their unique geometric patterns and aesthetic appeal. Despite considerable global research on diagrids, a detailed comparative analysis of their structural efficiency remains limited. This thesis assesses the structural efficiency and seismic performance of diagrid lateral load-resisting systems. The effectiveness of diagrids was compared to conventional building designs in multi-storey buildings …

Enhancing Compressive Strength of M25 Grade Concrete Using Ceramic Tiles Waste and Waste Fiber Metal: A Path Toward Sustainable Construction
Abstract: This study explores the use of Ceramic Tiles Waste and Waste Fiber Metal as partial replacements in M25 grade concrete, focusing on their impact on compressive strength. Various combinations of waste materials were tested to determine the optimal mix proportions. Compressive strength tests were conducted on concrete cubes incorporating 0.30%, 0.40%, and 0.50% Waste Fiber Metal with varying percentages of Ceramic Tiles Waste ranging from 20% to 50%. The results …

Seismic Risk Assessment of Soft-Story Buildings Using a Pushover Analysis Approach
Abstract: In urban India, reinforced concrete buildings with open ground stories designed for parking purposes are quite prevalent. These soft-story structures have faced severe damage and even total collapse during significant earthquakes in various regions, including the 1999 Taiwan earthquake, the 1999 Turkey earthquake, the 2003 Algeria earthquake, and the 2001 Bhuj earthquake, where approximately 1,500 medium-rise open ground-story buildings demonstrated extreme vulnerability. Given this vulnerability, the primary objective of this …

Experimental Study on the Strength Enhancement of Carbon Fiber Reinforced GGBS Concrete
Abstract: This study provides an in-depth analysis of the experimental investigation conducted on carbon fiber reinforced GGBS concrete (CFRGC). The primary objective of the research was to evaluate the effects of carbon fibers on various mechanical properties of concrete, with a particular focus on strength parameters. In this study, the carbon fiber content was systematically varied from 0.5% to 1.5% by weight of cement, in increments of 0.5%, to determine the …

Safety of Foundation of Building
Abstract: The design of a building's foundation requires careful consideration of the load intensity applied from the structure above. To ensure stability and safety, the foundation depth must be sufficient to support the loads effectively. For residential buildings, where the loads are relatively lower, a foundation base size of 2.5 × 2.5 meters or 3 × 3 meters is typically adequate. In contrast, for structures with significantly higher loads, such as …

Performance Evaluation of Geopolymer Coconut Shell Concrete: A Comparative Study with Conventional Concrete
Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has driven the exploration of alternative aggregates such as coconut shells in geopolymer concrete. This study investigates the characteristics and performance of Geopolymer Coconut Shell Concrete (GPCSC) and compares it with traditional Geopolymer Conventional Concrete (GPCC). Both mixes were evaluated for workability, density, and compressive strength at 3, 7, and 28 days. The slump values for GPCSC and GPCC were 10 mm and …

Evaluating the Structural Performance of Concrete with Partial Replacement of Fine Aggregate by Plastic Waste
Abstract: This work evaluates the performance of concrete incorporating plastic waste as a partial replacement for fine aggregate, at replacement levels of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Various tests were conducted on fresh and hardened concrete to assess workability, strength, and durability. The slump cone and compaction factor tests were used to measure workability, yielding a slump range between 25–30 mm and a compaction factor of 0.98, indicating medium workability. …
