Offshore Floating Wind Turbines: A Viable Major Source of Clean Power in Nigeria
Abstract: Renewable energy is one of the most exciting growth areas in the energy market. Offshore technology in the oil and gas industry is also applicable in renewable energy. A wind turbine converts kinetic energy from the wind into mechanical energy and the mechanical energy is used to produce electricity. At sea, the wind is stronger and more consistent, areas are large, and the challenges associated with projects located onshore are …

Study of Physical and Chemical Properties of Heavy Waxy Crude Oil from Cambay Basin Using Rheometer and Cross-Polar Microscope
Abstract: Production of heavy crude is quite difficult as the pressure drops from reservoir to production facility are quite large. This often leads to the precipitation and deposition of common organic solids (paraffin). These solids may deposit on surfaces, collect in low-energy regions or increase the effective viscosity of the flowing fluid. The net effect is an increase in pressure drop for a given rate through reduction in flowing area or …

Potential Application of Pyrolysis Bio-Oil as a Substitute for Diesel and Petroleum Fuel
Abstract: In this review, the potential of biomass-based pyrolysis bio-oil for a replacement to diesel and petroleum fuel was reported. Relevant articles on the pyrolysis of agricultural wastes were consulted. The properties of the bio-oils, diesel, and petroleum were compared. It was found in the literature values that the bio-oil derived from the pyrolysis of empty fruit bunches (EFB) and wood showed a remarkable heating value of 32.60 and 32.40 MJ/kg, …

Production of Cellulosic Ethanol from Wood Sawdust by Sulphuric acid Hydrolysis
Abstract: In this study, production of cellulosic ethanol from wood sawdust was investigated. Four experimental parameters were investigated during the hydrolysis and ethanol production. These are particle size (1–3 mm), acid concentration (3–7%), temperature (90–110°C), and time(120–240 min). The total reduced sugar content and ethanol yield was determined. Response surface methodology (RSM) employing the central composite design (CCD) was used to optimize the total reduced sugar and ethanol yield. Cite this …

Condition Monitoring of Drilling Rigs
Abstract: This paper is interned to give improved maintenance of various equipment’s in a deep drilling rig used for drilling exploratory oil and gas wells. Since drilling rigs are capital intensive a need was felt to reduce their maintenance cost and increase their life expectancy. Thus the diagnostic technique like condition monitoring was implemented to diagnose the various problems in the machinery which are caused due to continuous usage. Condition monitoring …
