Investigation of Inter Delamination Properties and Morphological Analysis of Natural Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites
Abstract: AbstractNatural fibers are strong, light weight, renewable, cheap, completely or partially recyclable, and biodegradable. The various types of natural fibers are flax, cotton, jute, sisal, kenaf pineapple, bamboo, banana, wood, etc. In this work, sisal fibers and banana fibers have been employed as the main reinforcing materials with epoxy resin as the matrix in order to increase the effectiveness of natural fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites. In this study, it is …

Modification of Acrylonitrile-Methylacrylate Copolymer by Gamma Irradiation
Abstract: AbstractRadiative degradation of acrylonitrile-methylacrylate (AM) copolymer has been investigated by electron spin resonance (ESR) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The ESR spectrum observed for AM copolymer irradiated to a dose of 12 Mrad is a triplet with an intensity ratio of 1:3:1. The ESR spectrum is simulated by total-curve-fitting method and component spectra are generated. Magnetic parameters of component spectra are evaluated. Component triplet spectrum with magnetic parameters ni=3, mi=1 is …

Studies on Mechanical, Electrical and Thermal Properties of Compatibilized PLA/ABS Blends Reinforced with Wood Flour
Abstract: AbstractPoly lactic acid (PLA) bio-polymer (60%) was blended with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) (40%) and filled with wood flour (0, 10, 20%) using a twin screw compounding extruder and a suitable compatibilizer i.e., glycerol, is also incorporated into that mixture at a percentage of 4% respectively. Test specimens were prepared by using an injection molding machine for mechanical, electrical and thermal properties as per ASTM standards and the properties were …

Investigation of Jute Mat with Waste Fish Net by Varying Matrices in Hybrid Composites
Abstract: AbstractIn this study the low cost material of multi filament waste fish net and jute fibres were incorporated as the main reinforcing materials with epoxy resin and polyester resin as the matrix in order to increase the strength of the hybrid composites. The samples were fabricated using hand layup technique. The nylon fibre of waste fish net possesses high impact strength, elasticity property and highly resistant to abrasion of chemicals …

Study of Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Unsaturated Polyester/CuO Nanocomposites
Abstract: AbstractThe CuO nano particles were synthesized from copper sulfate pentahydrate aqueous solution under the low hydrothermal condition at 80°C. The size of the CuO nanoparticles was calculated from TEM. FTIR spectra confirmed the formation of the CuO nanoparticles. Nanocomposites of unsaturated polyester resin with different loading of nano CuO fillers were prepared by casting method. The mechanical properties of the composites such as tensile behavior, flexural behavior, impact strength and …

Tung Oil Based Polyurethanes: A Short Review
Abstract: Polyurethane (PU) formulated from natural polyols obtained from Tung oil (TO) have improved hydroxylation of the double bonds in the fatty acid chains of the unsaturated oil followed by the alcoholysis of the hydroxylated oil. The comparative chemical analysis between unmodified and modified TO suggested that the hydroxyl content increased significantly after the hydroxylation and alcoholysis reactions. Incorporated wood flour (WF), microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) or rice husk ash (RHA) as …

A Study on the Effect of Ionic Conductivity on Addition of Salt for Polymer Nanocomposite Gel Electrolyte for Solar Cell Applications
Abstract: AbstractDye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) have attracted greater attention in the recent years because of their relatively high energy conversion efficiency and low cost. In the DSSCs, the electrolytes play a vital role in the determination of the efficiency and long term stability. In this investigation, we report on the synthesis, characterization and conductivity study of polymer nanocomposite gel electrolyte. Cadmium oxide nanoparticles were added into polymer blend of poly …
