Effect of Processing Methods and Fiber Content on Mechanical and Abrasive Wear Performance of Sisal Fiber/PLA Biocomposites
Abstract: AbstractIn this work, an attempt is made to study the effect of processing methods and fiber content on mechanical properties and abrasive wear behavior of polylactide-based biocomposites reinforced with sisal fiber. Three processing methods namely film-stacking, melt- impregnation and solvent-impregnation were used for fabricating unidirectional sisal fiber- reinforced biocomposites. The impact of processing methods and fiber content on biocomposites was assessed through evaluation of mechanical properties, viscoelastic behavior and abrasive …

ESR Evidence of Growing Unsaturation in -Irradiated Poly (Vinyl Alcohol)
Abstract: AbstractFree radicals present in gamma irradiated PVAL subjected to different degrees oxidation are identified using ESR spectroscopy. The observed ESR spectra are analysed by computer simulations. Gamma irradiated PVAL immediately after irradiation possess ~CH2–CH–CH2~ type free radicals (I). Upon oxidation the free radicals transform to ~CH2–CH=CH–CH2~ (II) highly oxidized PVAL consist ~CH2–C=O (III) type free radicals. The results suggest that radical (I) is precursor to radicals (II) and (III). Oxidation …

Mechanical and Tribological Characterization of CaCO3 and CaSO4 Filled CSM-E-Glass Fiber Reinforced Vinyl Ester Composites
Abstract: AbstractIn this paper, mechanical and tribological behavior of the composites under dry sliding wear of vinyl ester matrix reinforced with chopped strand mat (CSM)-E-glass fiber and fillers CaSO4 and CaCO3 sliding against smooth stainless steel counterface (Ra = 0.07 µm) using Taguchi experimental design has been presented. The effects of sliding velocity (1.57, 2.62 and 3.67 m/s), normal load (20, 40 and 60 N), filler content (0, 10 and 20 …

Studies in Effect of Methyl Methacrylate to Butylacrylate Ratio on the Properties of TiO2/poly(methyl methacrylate-co-butylacrylate) Core–Shell Composite Nanoparticles Prepared by Microemulsion Polymerization
Abstract: AbstractTitanium dioxide, as a core, was coupled with the poly(methyl methacrylate-co-butyl acrylate) using amino propyltriethoxy silane as a coupling agent. A two-stage semi-continuous microemulsion polymerization method was used for the synthesis of these core–shell nanoparticles. Ratio of methyl methacrylate to butyl acrylate was varied in the shell of the nanoparticles and the prepared core–shell composite nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron …

TSL Studies of Monovalent and Divalent Salts of Polystyrene Sulfonate
Abstract: AbstractThermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) spectra of monovalent and divalent salts of polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) have been recorded to study molecular relaxations and thermally induced processes. Monovalent salts [sodium polystyrene sulfonate (NaPSS) and potassium polystyrene sulfonate (KPSS)] have shown glow peak around 365 K and 369 K while divalent salts [calcium polystyrene sulfonate (CaPSS) and barium polystyrene sulfonate (BaPSS)] have exhibited two glow peaks around 345 K, 385 K (CaPSS) and …
