BisGMA/Thermoplastic Polymer Blends: A Study of Mechanical and Corrosive Properties
Abstract: AbstractThe objective of this work is to synthesize various blends of Bisphenol-A-glycidyldimethacrylate (BisGMA) resin with different proportions of thermoplastic polymers like poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and poly-ethyleneoxazoline (PEOZ) and to study their mechanical and corrosive properties. The experimental results showed that BisGMA/PVP and BisGMA/PEOZ blends displayed an improvement in the mechanical properties over unmodified BisGMA resin and the 50:50 blend system is the optimum blend composition in both BisGMA/PVP and BisGMA/PEOZ blends. …

Parametric Study of Twin Screw Extrusion for Processing Epoxy/Carbon Black Nanocomposites Using Orthogonal Array Technique
Abstract: AbstractThis paper presents the experimental investigation of the influence of process parameters of twin screw extrusion on the dispersion and electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy/CB nanocomposites. Four factors, namely, loading level of carbon black (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 wt%) in epoxy, screw speed (75, 100 and 125 rpm), temperature (5 °, 15 ° and 30 °C) and number of passes (5, 10 and 15) were …

Studies in Effect of Alumina Nanoparticles on the Properties of Unplasticized Polyvinylchloride (PVC)
Abstract: AbstractUnplasticized polyvinylchloride (PVC)/nano-alumina composites were prepared using high- speed mixer, two-roll mills and compression molding. In the composite, the concentration of nano-alumina was varied from 0 to 7 phr (parts per hundred). The prepared composites were characterized for mechanical, thermal, electrical, crystallinity and morphological properties. Optimal improvement in properties was obtained at 5 phr concentration of nano-alumina in the PVC matrix. Tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength, flexural modulus and …

Synthesis and Characterization of Certain Biodegradable Chitosan/Lactic Acid-based Polyester Blend Films
Abstract: AbstractBiodegradable blend films based on chitosan with poly(ethylene glycol lactate-co-ethylene glycol terephthalate), PEGLT and poly(butylene lactate-co-butylene succinate), PBLSA, were prepared by solution-mixing and film-casting method. The main objective of this investigation was the study and characterization of chitosan/lactic acid-based polyester blends which are useful as bio-packaging material for potential food applications. The first part of the investigation was related to the synthesis and characterization of polyesters, PEGLT and PBLSA by …
