Hydrodynamic Analysis of Deep Drafted Column Structured (DDCS) Floater for an Offshore Wind Turbine
Abstract: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Power generation from offshore wind turbines is widely seen as a main source of sustainable energy supply in coming decades. As wind speed increases rapidly with distance from the coast, potential sites for extracting the offshore wind energy for the use of coastal community exist in many places. In shallow water, fixed structures like tripods, jackets, and truss-type towers, monopiles and gravity …

Vortex Shedding Characteristics of Tapered Cylinders at Turbulent Wake
Abstract: The physics of flow regime around a tapered cylinder is strongly three-dimensional (3D) and complex. These pose numerical difficulties in capturing the vortex shedding phenomena in the wake of cylinder. This paper discusses the main characteristics of vortex shedding behind a fixed linearly tapered circular cylinder at relatively high Reynolds numbers. A computational fluid dynamics model is employed to solve the 3D incompressible transient Navier-Stokes governing equations. The numerical model …

Power Quality Enhancement on Grid Integrated Wind Energy System with the help of STATCOM
Abstract: In this paper, the power quality enhancement on grid integrated wind energy system (PQEGWES) using STATCOM is presented. This scheme aimed to improve the power quality of the grid integrated wind energy system using BESS is used for charging the capacitor in STATCOM. The injection of wind power into the grid affects the power quality of the system. Some of the power quality issues are voltage sag and harmonics. In …

3D Finite Element Analysis of Marine Risers under Random Loads
Abstract: The dynamic response of marine risers under long crested random sea is obtained in time domain using finite element solver ABAQUS/AQUA. The response analysis is based on a simulation technique which duly considers various nonlinear effects such as relative velocity squared drag force, variable added mass due to variable submergence and nonlinearity due to large excursions. It also accounts for variable tension in the riser due to variable submergence, variable …
