Sizing and Power Estimation Models of an Off-grid Wind Power Supply System in Sokoto, Nigeria
Abstract: AbstractThe exploitation of wind energy for electricity generation could be done by the use of wind turbines. The power output from the wind generator fluctuates due to the variability of wind speed and therefore storage facilities are needed for power supply stability. This research focuses on the wind power potential investigations, sizing of wind power system components and determination of the better wind turbines for residential power supply in Sokoto, …

Evaluation of the Security Risks Associated with the Construction and Operations of a Nuclear Power Plant in the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Abstract: AbstractElectricity is paramount for Nigeria’s economic growth. Both, commercialindustrial and domesticactivities mainly rely on electricity for daily needs and smooth operations. Electricity from nuclear energy will further boost the required national power capacity, projected to be above 10,000 MW. This study addresses some associated security problems that may bedevil a Nigerian Nuclear Power Plant Project with the necessary response arrangements if any security breach arises. Paramount among the problems observed …

Study on Solar Water Heater with Thermal Energy Storage System
Abstract: AbstractRenewable power supplies are progressively gaining increasing importance in all the nations. Specially, solar electricity, being non-polluting and inexhaustible, has obtained extensive interest among scientists and engineers. Although, there are many advantages, an essential factor is that solar power is time structured power source with an intermittent individual. Consequently, some form of thermal power storage (TES) is necessary for the only usage of this energy supply. Thermal energy can be …

Multi-objective Reactive Power Planning based on MNSGA II
Abstract: Abstract This paper presents an application of modified NSGA-II (MNSGA-II) to reactive power planning (RPP) problem by minimizing the total cost (which consist of sum of annual energy cost and the installation cost of additional reactive power sources) and the load bus voltage deviations. Voltage stability index is considered as an additional constraint in order to include the system stability into account. Reference Pareto-front is generated using covariance matrix adopted. …

Non-conventional Energy Sources for Rural Electrification—a Review
Abstract: AbstractThe main objective of rural electrification is to provide electric power supply to the rural areas and remote places. Rural electrification will bring about rural development. The schools will get electricity which will thereby improve the standard of those areas. The national grid is not enough to meet out the power supply needs of those remote areas. The city people are not affected by the power supply crisis, it is …
