Seismic Induced Landslide Vulnerability in the Chittagong City, Bangladesh
Abstract: Chittagong is the second largest city of Bangladesh and evidences of hundreds of earthquakes that jolted this city and its surrounding areas. In this paper, we show the cause of slope failure in Chittagong city with the response of earthquake (seismic) activity. We have collected four in-situ samples from each of the upper and lower layers, i.e., eight samples from each of the seven different locations (Motijharna, Tankir Pahar, Batali …

Study on the Bio-kinetic Coefficients of Kitchen Effluent using UASB Reactor
Abstract: The upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor was operated at optimum organic loading rate (OLR) of 2.4 kg-COD/m3-day, with hydraulic detention time (HDT) of 10–12 h during the study. It was concluded from the study that the treatment of high-ranged kitchen mill effluent is technically feasible provided that the pH of the system is kept near to neutral. This can be achieved by adding NaHCO3 to the feed solution. The …

Slope Remedial Work at Bukit Nanas, Malaysia
Abstract: Bukit Nanas is located in the center of Kuala Lumpur. A massive slope failure has occurred at Bukit Nanas that caused tremendous effects, where nine vehicles were buried and causing a massive traffic jam due to main road closure. A slope remedial work needs to be undertaken to rehabilitate the slope, since this location is critical as it connects many places in Kuala Lumpur. Slope stability analysis was carried out …

Cost Effective Wastewater Treatment Technique for Bara Nulla Peshawar
Abstract: Various samples from Bara Nulla in Peshawar were collected and analyzed, using standard methods for various important wastewater parameters. The effluent discharge from the nulla is highly polluted in terms of its physical and chemical properties. Most of it parameters do not meet the requirements of Pak-EPA NEQS limitations set for industrial and domestic effluent discharge. The average wastewater characteristics of nulla in terms of COD, BOD, TDS, TSS, turbidity …

Stabilization of Alluvial Soil by using Boiler Feed Ash
Abstract: The feasibility of using industrial wastes, boiler feed ash (BFA) (rice husk-based) from an oil mill for soil stabilization was studied. The waste material is produced as an industrial by-product in the boiler of the oil mill; the waste contains silica compound up to 85%, hence it can be used as a stabilizing agent. The effects of adding BFA on Proctor's density, Atterberg’s limits, soil plasticity and the CBR value …
