Abstract

This technical paper elaborates the pre-planning as well as execution strategies adopted in designing and implementing an efficient radiant floor heating system at Leh, Ladakh region. The extremely detrimental climatic condition of the region as well as the occupant comfort level was considered in evaluating the zone-wise heat load calculations of the buildings which has to be equipped with the heating system. Further the insulation specifications, temperature of the hydronic system, water flow rate, spacing of the pipe and the exact length of the circuit were formulated using the calculations based on area as well as heat loss occurring through floor, walls and ceilings of various rooms. This study also covers the conventional and existing methodologies predominantly used in Ladakh region
