This paper presents the literature survey of slow pyrolysis; an economical thermochemical process to produce bio-oil. In slow pyrolysis, the low temperature (up to 500°C), low heating rate and longer vapor residence time (up to 30 min) which produced 25 to 45% bio-oil, bio-char 35 to 50% and pyro-gas 30 to 50%. Pyrolysis yield such as bio-oil, bio-char and pyro-gas depends on temperature, heating rate, sweeping gas effect, initial moisture content, vapor residence time, size of feed particles, biomass type and mineral matter. The bio-oil is used as furnace oil and after up-gradation process; it can be used as a fuel. Bio-char has a high calorific value so it can be used as an activated carbon and for burning application. The pyro-gas obtained has methane, hydrogen and carbon-monoxide which was collected in a chamber and used to provide heating to pyrolysis. Keywords: Pyrolysis, biomass, yieldCite this Article Bhargav Prajapati.
