Abstract

This project considers the basic technical aspects of power generations from some abandoned oil wells which involve the analysis of the data from the wells. The power capacity of the wells in the first category is determined primarily by the temperature of the produced water and conversion efficiency of the geothermal power plant. The factors that control the wellhead temperature of the produced fluid are: formation temperature, well depth, well diameter and production rate. It is shown that the well’s productivity could be substantially improved by working it over. A case history of assessment of such a well from Eleme is presented in this project. It is concluded that power generation from the well is technically feasible, and can be commercially acceptable with the efficiency of 76.2%. The wells are estimated to be capable of generating averagely 1.3 MW which will help supply electricity to a good number of Eleme community.
