Surface Enhancement plays a vital role in augmenting the thermal performance of flat plate collectors. In this paper, an attempt is made to explain in a comparative way the effect of surface geometry of solar flat plate collector having troughs with that of a normal collector. Flat plate collectors with and without troughs of dimensions 1 × 0.5 m is modelled in CATIA V5R19 and meshed using ANSYS ICEM CFD. CFD analysis using ANSYS CFX is carried out on the collectors for two cities Visakhapatnam and New Delhi at 8 A.M. at different flow rates on 1st day of November, December, January and February. From the analysis of output, it can be inferred that average output temperature of water is augmented for flat plate collector with trough compared to without trough.
