Frictional properties of thermally processed electroless nickel coatings

Abstract

Electroless plating was used to deposit the nickel (Ni) coatings on the carbon steel substrate, both with and without incorporated cubic boron nitride (c-BN) nanoparticles. Coatings were put through tests under both heat-treated and as-deposited conditions. In addition to measuring hardness and roughness, the coating structure was characterized. Under dry and water lubricated contact circumstances, the friction characteristics of bronze, used as the counter-body material, were investigated. coefficients of friction that are both static and dynamic. A running-in surface texture was used to replicate the situation, while steady-state conditions were represented by a second surface texture. the enhancement of high - temperature electroless Ni coatings' corrosive and erosive wear resistance with embedded c-BN nanoparticles. This work seeks to explore the effects of such impacts on the friction characteristics of electroless Ni coatings under various sliding circumstances. The surface and presence of water had a substantially bigger influence than the coefficients of friction. The hardness, structure, and morphological of a coating are changed by heat treatment, which has an impact on how resistant it is to wear and corrosion. Because of nickel's transition from an amorphous to crystalline structure, these coatings' hardness and wear resistance have increased.
