Abstract

Present paper investigates the thermal characteristics pertaining to laminar forced convection heat transfer enhancement achieved in a  flat surface mounted with cylindrical perforated pin fins in a rectangular channel having a area of cross section 280 x150 mm2.The analysis was done for the range of angle of perforated holes from 00 to 600 for a constant value of Reynolds Number and fixed fin spacing of 40 mm using air as fluid. Nusselt Number, heat flux, heat transfer coefficient and angle of perforation with flat surface were considered as performance parameters. Results obtained from this analysis were validated for No fin case. heat transfer was enhanced due to presence of holes in the cylindrical cross-sectional pin fins. It was observed that despite continuous increment in surface area, the heat transfer approaches maximum rate only at a particular angle of holes which may be termed as optimized hole angle for maximum heat transfer.
