Abstract

In this work, Ni-Cr/WC-Co composite coating with an approximate thickness of appr. 100 µm was produced by atmospheric plasma and HVOF thermal spraying on SS 304 substrate. The main objective was to characterize the Ni-Cr/WC-Co coating. The microstructure and composition of powder and coatings were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Microscope and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The coating characteristics such as porosity, and micro-hardness were evaluated. Finally the corrosion rate of the coatings was measured using polarization methods and it was found that HVOF coatings having better corrosion resistance because of lower porosity value.
