Abstract

Geopolymer mortar is a new trend in mortars, manufactured with fine aggregate and geopolymers like fly ash and silica fume, which gets activated by alkaline solutions like sodium silicate solutions. Research work on geopolymer based mortars is attaining more scope in present era because of its sustainable properties and easy availability. The study, includes to evaluate the strength in compression and bond strengths of different mortars in different curing methods, including hot air, ambient and curing in water. It also includes the fresh properties of the geopolymer mortar like normal consistency and physical properties like compressive strength, tensile strength and bond strengths. It mainly focuses on geopolymer mortar activated with sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide as polymerising agents. The evaluated results shows that the compressive strength of geopolymer mortar is nearly 65% greater than the OPC and PPC mortars. Also, the bond strength of the geopolymer mortar exhibits 50% higher values compared to OPC and PPC mortars. In the present experimental work, geopolymer mortar unveils better strength and bonding properties. Therefore, Geopolymer must be a feasible and sustainable substitute to conventional cement mortar.
