Abstract

The results of an experimental examination into the flexural and bond characteristics of Glass fibre reinforced polymer material in structural concrete are presented in this paper. In this study, glass fibre reinforced polymer bars of varied diameters were used. The performance of these bars with full and partial steel bar replacement is investigated. The major goal of this inquiry is to use Glass fibre reinforced polymer bars in water retaining structures, hence M25 concrete is used to make concrete beams and blocks. The rationale for this is that glass fibre reinforced polymer material is corrosion resistant, which could be a solution to the corrosion problem associated with steel reinforcement in water-retaining structures, as well as extending their lifespan. Flexural strength and bond strength are two of the numerous strengths investigated. Casted are 100 × 100 × 700 mm flexural beams and 150 mm bond strength cubes with glass fibre reinforced polymer bars penetrated in them. After 28 days, all of the specimens are water cured and tested. With 50% replacement of glass fibre reinforcement, flexural strength tests provide satisfactory results. Pullout tests reveal a considerable increase in binding strength.
