Abstract Development of industry and increasing living quality, there is a continuous increase in demand of energy which has led to serious environmental issues like global warming, air pollution, production of toxic gases, ozone layer depletion, etc. High oil prize is motivating the researchers to search into renewable energy alternatives. Energy supply to the refrigeration and air conditioning system constitutes a significant role in the world. So, it is very essential to find out cost effective way for utilizing energy very efficiently and for decreasing consumption for high grade electricity. It is possible to reduce electricity demand by using solar energy for cooling. Getting hot thermal energy from solar is popular and widely spread but cooling with solar thermal energy is not spread so far. Solar energy as a renewable energy source for cooling applications has for a long time been a favourite topic for many researchers. From all the solar based refrigeration cycle, ejector cycle is possessing attracting features of utilizing any form of low grade energy like industrial waste heat vehicular exhaust or heat from any chemical processes. It is not having any moving parts and low operational and maintenance cost. This paper represents a comprehensive literature review on solar driven refrigeration cycle with focus on ejector based refrigeration cycle. It deeply analyses background and operating principle of ejector, ejector geometry selection and selection of working fluid and effect of all operating parameters on ejector performance with past present and future trends.
