In this study, energy and exergy analysis have been performed of the ammonia-water operated vapour absorption refrigeration (VAR) system. Authors have trained artificial neural network (ANN) for predicting thermodynamic properties (specific enthalpy and specific entropy) of working fluid (ammonia-water). Authors have achieved coefficient of multiple determination (R2) value 0.9999 and the root mean square error (RMSE) value 0.00211 for input data set of saturated liquid and R2 value 0.999999 and the RMSE value 0.0005797 for input data set of saturated vapour which were most satisfactorily for validating the ANN for this analysis. Heat flow (energy analysis) in each main component of the VAR cycle has been calculated under the first law analysis. Specific exergy is estimated at each salient point of VAR system. Exergy destruction rate due to irreversibility is also calculated in major component of VAR system. Performance parameters like Coefficient of Performance and exergetic efficiency are also estimated to determine the value of optimum operational parameters for achieving maximum performance of proposed VAR system.
