Abstract

Adaptive cooling technique has been proposed as an energy efficient strategy for a centralized HVAC system in summer environment. Energy consumption is basically defined as an effort to minimize unnecessary energy consumption as by-product of the required energy consumption or to minimize the gap between required energy consumption and final energy consumption. There is a developing, state government trend of installing renewable energy in Kolkata. One area of interest is wider in the world that the use of solar-energy systems. The worldwide fast development of building-integrated solar technology has prompted the design alternative of fixing the solar panels on the external facades of buildings. In this numerical study, the potential application of a centralized solar powered air-conditioning system in high-rise engineering colleges was evaluated. This technique demonstrated considerable annual energy saving potential. This paper aims to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of the proposed technique for an academic building in MCKV Institute of Engineering. With an assumption of 13 years’ service time, the value of the proposed technique became evident that the proposed adaptive comfort technique was economically feasible.
