Abstract

The electric power and energy systems (EPESs) are undergoing a transition to deliver clean decentralized energy for sustainable economic growth. The Internet of Things (IoT) is at the leading edge of this transformation, imparting capabilities such as real-time monitoring, context awareness and intelligence, control, and cyber security, in order to transform existing EPES into intelligent cyber-enabled EPES that is more efficient, secure, dependable, resilient, and sustainable. Additionally, digitising the electric power ecosystem through the Internet of Things increases asset visibility, optimises distributed generation management, eliminates energy waste, and generates savings. The Internet of Things has a major impact on EPESs and presents numerous prospects for growth and development. There are various obstacles to deploying IoT for EPESs.
