Abstract

AbstractTo meet the need for long-distance communication, the directive characteristics and radiation pattern of the antenna must be improved. By arranging the antenna elements in an electrical or geometric pattern, such that the radiated energy of the radiation elements vector added in the desired direction of propagation and canceled in the unwanted direction, results in a better-designed antenna array. The elements of the antenna array may be uniformly or non-uniformly placed. A design problem of non-uniform circular antenna arrays for maximum reduction of both the sidelobe level (SLL) and first null beam width (FNBW) is dealt with in the project. The method of Bacteria Foraging Optimization (BFO) is used to find an optimal set of current excitation weights and antenna inter-element spacing that provide radiation patterns with maximum SLL reduction and much improvement on FNBW as well. The optimized values of current excitation weights and inter-element spacing are used to generate the graphs for relative side lobe vs different inter-element spacing are plotted. The results are analyzed in terms of iteration cycles, sidelobe reduction (SLL) and first null beam width (FNBW).Keywords: Sidelobe reduction, first null beam width, bacteria foraging optimization formattingCite this ArticleDeepa Bammidi, Chandra Bhushana Rao Kota.
